Festive rush for Bak Kwa ahead of Lunar New Year celebrations

Kim Hua Guan, a family-owned Bak Kwa maker with over 50 years of history, operates their humble flagship store at People’s Park Food Centre in Singapore’s Chinatown.

Bak Kwa is a traditional Chinese dried pork product that originated from Fujian province in Southern China. The sweet pork jerky remains a popular treat among Singapore’s Chinese community, especially during Lunar New Year celebrations. It is common for people to queue 8 hours or more under the hot sun and pay upwards of SGD 56 per kilogram so that they can enjoy Bak Kwa over the festive season.
