Abramovitz opened her studio Athens in 1978 after leaving her job as the head of ceramics in Case Western University, hoping to strike out on her own and be close to the clay she has sourced for her pottery. "It’s been 39 years since I moved here from my first studio in Athens. I no longer feel an attachment to my original location. I named my studio after the creek that bordered it and kept it despite my move to Shade as it’s catchy,” Abramovitz shared. (Photo by Loriene Perera)

"I need to send this web order of three garden markers out ASAP for this customer who lives in Virginia. It's probably a Thanksgiving gift. Her grandmother had bought my garden markers many years ago when I traveled the country for trade fairs. She was pleasantly surprised she could actually find the same ones her grandmother had from all those years back. It's currently off season for garden markers, but since I'm at it, I should paint a couple more ahead of spring," Abramovitz shared. (Photo by Loriene Perera)

It would usually take me 5 minutes to walk back home, but with him, I'll take at least 15 minutes. Also, it gets really treacherous walking up this steep slope when the weather gets icy," Abramovitz revealed. (Photo by Loriene Perera)
